In printing, bleed is when printed elements extend past the edge of the page. This allows the printer to trim the page down to size while avoiding white lines around the edges.
You can send a variety of file types to print, including JPEG, PDF, EPS, PNG, AI, PSD, and SVG. The best file format depends on the type of design, the print resolution, and the desired output.
The size you can blow up a picture depends on its original resolution, with higher resolution images allowing for larger prints without noticeable pixelation.
Common poster sizes are 11 in x 17 in, 18 in x 24 in, 24 in x 36 in
Proofs are good for printers and good for clients. They help to ensure everyone is happy with the finished result and give everyone an opportunity to spot mistakes with the design or format. Make sure you see something before your job goes to print, even if it’s just a pdf.
It’s always worth asking when a job will be completed. Often the lead time depends on a number of different factors, so it’s best to find out when you need to get the artwork to the printer in order for them to meet your
deadline.
